Who Do We Help?
School Children
Scholarships
We offer scholarships to high school students and have created a foundation to assist in this effort.
School Clubs
We sponsor a Key Club and Builders Club to foster community outreach at the middle and high school levels.
- Royal Palm SchoolThe Delray Beach Kiwanis Sunrise Club has enjoyed an ongoing relationship with the Royal Palm School for many years. The Royal Palm School is dedicated to providing education to students who are disabled.
- The Royal Palm School possesses a staff of dedicated teachers, aides, and support individuals who achieve meaningful results under difficult circumstances. The Delray Beach Kiwanis Sunrise Club is proud to be associated with the Royal Palm School and are looking forward to continuing this relationship. We are pleased to donate monies to the Royal Palm School each year, and they return the favor, by creating the Hole Sponsor signs for our annual golf tournament.
BUGs
- The Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach Sunrise sponsors the BUGs Program in Delray Beach elementary schools. BUGs, an acronym for Bringing Up Grades, recognizes students for academic improvement.
- Kids who are recognized for their achievement are more likely to continue their efforts to improve. Their self-esteem improves. Anyone can win. They don’t have to be an athlete or honor roll student or bookworm or even popular…just improve.
- While there are other awards for outstanding academics, many kids make a sincere effort but don’t quite make it to an honor roll or deans list. This is where the BUGs program fills in the gaps.
- In order for a student to qualify, he/she must raise one subject by two grade levels or two subject by one grade level, without allowing any other grades to fall. Winners are determined by improvement in the second trimester as compared with the first.
- Winners receive a button to wear (this is usually tied into a special treat at school), a bumper sticker (for the family to express their pride), a beautiful color certificate and a pencil and a ticket. Among the winners present, we will have a drawing for prizes including bikes, radio control cars, electronics and other fun prizes.
- BUGs is an excellent program to motivate students to improve a little each time…in class…in school…and in life.
Delray BeachAmerican Little League
- The Delray Beach Kiwanis Sunrise Club has sponsored and will continue to sponsor a team for the Delray Beach American Little League.
- The Delray Beach American Little League is comprised of between 20 and 15 teams (baseball and softball) covering ages 5-15. The League is made up of all volunteers who give their time to be managers, coaches, umpires, team moms, scorekeepers, concession, etc.

Families and Their Children
Forgotten Soldiers Outreach
- The 2005-2006holiday season saw our country sending troops to Iraq for lengthy tours. Away from their homes and families this time leads to some lonely and stressful times while they are protecting our freedom.
- Our Club recognized this and decided to make a difference. We donated money and necessary food and toiletry items to the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach Organizationbased out of West Palm Beach to send to the troops stationed in Iraq.
- Hopefully, to at least some of our local troops, we did indeed make a difference.
AVDA
- Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse. Each month our Treasurer gives us a check for $125.00 to shop for groceries for the AVDA shelter. The shopping list is usually provided by the Supervisor. This list includes such items as milk, eggs, juice, cold cuts, fresh fruits and vegetables. Amounts depend on how many people are in residence, and how many children are with their mothers.
- Our Club has also bought the shelter a replacement refrigerator and freezer and a microwave oven.
- Through our Club’s Thanksgiving Committee we provide turkey dinners for those in residence for Thanksgiving Day.
- We also bring them donated cell phones that they program for 911 to be used by individuals in trouble.
- Our Club, every Wednesday morning at the regular meeting, has a 50-50 raffle. Many of the winners this year have donated their winnings to augment the amount of money we have for the purchase of food for the residents of the Shelter.
Hurricane Victims
- Our Club provided financial assistance to a local woman who was a victim of Hurricane Wilma.
Thanksgiving
- Thanksgiving is a special time of year and each year we deliver approximately 22 Thanksgiving dinners to families in need in our area. The turkeys and the mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, vegetables and pie are enjoyed by all of our recipients and it makes us feel that we are giving back to families in need.

Adopt a Park
- This year our Club has agreed to adopt Worthing Park on Atlantic Avenueas its very own. This allows us to give back to the community, including families and children, by keeping this beautiful pocket park clean and neat and free of trash and grafitti so that everyone can enjoy it.
